St.Helens Council’s Library Service launched its Young People’s Charter and Right to Write poetry booklet as part of its National Year of Reading on 3 March 2008.

The event took place at Central Library, St.Helens and featured Manchester based adult and teen author Sherry Ashworth.

Young People’s Charter

The charter was put together after staff worked closely with young people and it contains pieces of work written by the young people themselves.


Right to Read poetry booklet

The booklet contains poems written by looked after children.


Partners

It was published in association with Knowsley Council following the Right to Read project which promoted reading and literacy among children who are looked after and their foster carers.

Students from Haydock Sports College, St Augustine’s and De La Salle high schools were invited to the event.
