The editable good practice guide for literacy projects and policy
Wikireadia is a searchable and editable encyclopaedia of good practice in reading, writing, listening and speaking. It was originally created as part of the 2008 National Year of Reading and is now managed by the National Literacy Trust].
The field of literacy is expansive, therefore the number of articles and topics is potentially very large. This site offers the chance to share good practice in literacy initiatives for all audiences (from early years through to adults).
It can also act as a history of the development of literacy policy. For more up-to-date information and comment on literacy within the political arena please click here [].
Wikireadia will be as useful and as informative as you make it! It is up to you to contribute articles as well as amend any incorrect information you find.
Wikireadia is written collaboratively by literacy professionals from all across the UK and beyond. Its purpose is to provide a catalogue of good practice initiatives in reading, writing, speaking and listening and to demonstrate the political context of literacy development.
As with anything collaborative Wikireadia will only be successful if people take the time to share their own case studies. So please contribute your ideas and experiences. We all want to know...
Wikireadia’s articles provide links to guide the user to related pages with additional information. Visitors need no specific qualification to contribute as their primary role is to write articles that cover existing knowledge about reading, writing, listening and speaking and the teaching of literacy to different audiences.
Who is Wikireadia for?
Anyone is welcome to add information, cross-references or citations, as long as they do so within the Wikireadia editing policies and to an appropriate standard. For example, if you add information to an article, be sure to include your references, as unreferenced facts are likely to be removed.
Easy to repair, impossible to damage
There is no need to worry about accidentally damaging Wikireadia when adding or improving information, as the programme running the wiki, known as MediaWiki, is carefully designed to allow easy reversal of editorial mistakes.
If you have accidentally amended an article or deleted a contribution, please contact the Wikireadia Manager.
How can you get involved?
Wikireadia is regularly updated and amended and we encourage you to contribute your good practice case studies to keep this site alive and full of the best practice in the literacy sphere.
If you have not done so, we invite you to take a few moments to read what Wikireadia is (and is not), so that you have an understanding of how to consult or contribute to Wikireadia. Further information can be found in our Frequently asked questions page.
